Pictionary is cool. I dig strategy games such as variants of risk.
What is your take on Dungeons & Dragons? Is it okay to play or as a christian, should we avoid it? Its a very interesting game.
hey Mike
i watched some friends play it one time when i was at school and foound it super boring
i think as a Christ-follower we need to be careful with stuff involving magic and so on – i tend to avoid computer games that have a lot of it in altho i guess you can take the stance that if you’re aware it’s just a game [cos i occasionally watch movies with magic in – loved Lord of The Rings for example] then it’s okay – depends how hectic the content is – but also as with anything the problem can be that you get addicted to it and it robs you of time and that is probly a bigger problem cos i think people can get really wrapped up in it – also some people take it too seriously and start getting affected emotionally when their character dies and so on then you have problems – i prefer board and card games like Settlers of Catan and Carcossane which are epic games and with no questionable material…
I hear you. I played Dungeons & Dragons a few times, but the first time when my character died, the guy took my character sheet and tore it up. I was quite annoyed and asked why we couldn’t just erase it (it was all in pencil anyway) and start anew. He said that was the rules – quite weird hey? I enjoy reading the books that come with the game, to see mainly the monsters stats and all, same as I like reading about the characters in Marvel or DC comics. There may be some temptation to wish to be like these characters or to become too fascinated with them in which case obsession turns to idol worship? I do find actually playing the game to be very boring, but reading about it is quite interesting. Most of it is made-up, but there is a lot taken from the Bible and other religions, folklore and myth.
I prefer computer games like the first person shooters, but more specifically ones with a storyline like “Witcher”, set in the middle ages, or assassins creed. Not the best games for morals, but can be fun if you dont take it too seriously or spend too much time in the game.
Starcraft and Brood war were both great, but Starcraft2 they made Zerg alot weaker in my opinion and it unbalanced the game a bit.
So I dont play games often, and can see the temptations, but I do like games that you can interact with others such as card games like marvel cards where compete with other people’s superhero cards, or settlers or risk (a bit too luck-based though).
