is it just me or is this one of the most ridiculous sporting statements EVER since the days of Murray walker in Formula 1 talking about how a driver being overtaken was a great tactical move that would come into play later… the headline was “Conditions should suit us”
“New Zealand wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum thinks his side’s greater experience of conditions in Mirpur could give them the edge over South Africa in their quarter-final clash on Friday. New Zealand will have bitter memories of the ground – it was here that Bangladesh beat them in four successive one-day internationals in October last year – but those games will at least have given them in-depth local knowledge of what to expect.”
so in a nutshell Brendon, you’re saying that because this ground was the setting for your team’s worst humiliation in recent years, you have the upper hand…? got it.

I do not find rugby or cricket interesting. I actually didn’t even know there was a game on.
Often guys approach me with sad disheartened looks on their faces on Monday morning, asking me what I thought of the “game”. I usually just laugh in their faces- well not quit in their faces but you know what I mean. I did not know there was a game on. I did not care and I also did not care who won or lost. It makes zero difference in my life.
Some cell me cynical or unpatriotic. I beg to differ please let me explain. The only positive thing is that cricket may help youngsters keep out of trouble. But then so can any activity including science. My patriotism lies in science and engineering, something which this country really needs. We don’t really need cricket and the millions pumped into cricket could be better spent on education for science and technology.
I have no idea how someone could watch an entire test of a week. It must take an idle mind or one who is not easily bored to endure that.
I don’t care if SA wins or loses the cricket. I do hope that more money is put into education, science, medicine than into vacuous entertainment.
a lot of truth simon… but in the meantime, until that happens [i too believe that the money poured into sport is ludicrous, bordering on evil sometimes] i will support the proteas… [and i myself have gotten to a place where i can’t justify in itself sitting and watching 5 days of cricket altho i love it and easily could do it – but rather see sport as an opportunity to connect with others and unwind and chill which is necessary at times i think]
