no, no, it’s not a typo, it’s a rethink.
the word ‘resolution’ should be good enuff because it comes from the base word “resolve” and if people truly resolved to do the resolutions they make [altho i don’t actually know of many people that make them – they seem to be this mythical beast that people avoid because they know they will lose the battle] then the world would probably be a better place, depending i guess on the resolutions being made of course.
i found this quote on one of my social networks today and tried to uncle google a source but couldn’t find one, so will have to dedicate to that ‘john doe’ of famous unknown author quotations, ‘A Non’:
“The distance between ignorance & knowledge is much shorter than the distance between knowledge & practice.”
and this i believe is true. we all know what we need to do to change the world, or at the very least make it a little bit better for someone else we know, but we too seldom convert that knowledge to action.
hence the title of this post – how are you going to evolve/change/grow/transform as you head into 2012?
like really? not a wish list or a dream list of that-would-be-nice ideas. i’m talking about making an actual plan… so when my friend Sam commented on what she would like to see happen next year, “maybe cooking” i jumped on and suggested she sign up for a basic cooking class…
because the resolutions generally start with ‘i’d like to’ or ‘it would be good if’
so “i’d like to lose weight” – join a plan, pick a diet, cut out fizzy drinks/chocolate etc
“i’d like to be nicer to other people” – pick a person, make a plan, volunteer somewhere
“i want to read my Bible more” – choose a time for doing so, cement it in your daily planner
it doesn’t matter so much what it is, but try and be more specific with your plans for 2012 so that your resolutions [what you resolve to do] become actual evolutions [changes, transformations] because as some wise oke once said “if you continue to do the thing you’ve always done, you will continue to get the same results you’ve always gotten.”
so, if you read this, i would dig it if you comment and let me know one thing you are planning on doing differently in 2012. and go!
for some ideas on good evolutions to consider, keep reading…
Get married. 😉
you have someone in mind or just a general wish list? all the best buddy. trust you are thriving in Him!
Absolutely brilliant way of looking at it!
I’ve got so many prayers I’m commiting to God for 2012- cos I know it’s only Grace that wld ever catalyse the evolutions I want to see in my life- here of some of them: spend more time studying the Bible and praying with my husband, as opposed to almost always seeking God’s presence on my own
– organise more play dates for my four year old: friend dates and mommy and daddy dates, as opposed to mostly always expecting him to go along with my to do list for the day
– get a preaching club going with some of the ladies in my church so we can practise speaking into each others lives and processing what God’s saying to us
– spending more time getting involved with Rainbow House, the safe house that my foster son comes from. The lady who runs that home is one of my most amazing role models and I want to learn to live like she does- so unselfishly, so dependent on God for needs and wants!
… Okay, gonna stop there- so much more on my mind and heart. Father God, please help me to take the steps I need. Thank you for this year past. It’s been a toughie- but wow, it’s been good too! Please help me not to forget the lessons I’ve learnt this year! Next year, I really want to go deeper, gain more momentum and live life to the full! In Jesus’ Name… Let’s do this!!
hey Abby, those sound great – i encourage you to write them down and stick them where you’ll see them if you haven’t already and plan that first child date before the new year begins so you can start strong… all the best for an incredible 2012.
I received a 366 day devotional for Christmas this year…a gift I have received before but never fully committed to. So this year it’s happening 🙂
Also, my goal for 2011 was to learn to play drums. That didn’t really work out, but the good news is that I can kind of play bass 😛 So I think this year I’m going to improve my bass playing, and learn to play drums!! YEAH 🙂
And lastly I want to write more worship songs. So I’m going to get a journal going, and do 2 song-writing courses…I have one, and I’m ordering the other one soon 🙂
that’s amazing stuff kevin. thankx for sharing and all the best. looking forward to hearing how it goes.
wow, when i read this quickly the first time i thort it said cut out all food and only drink tea, water and juice but glad my second reading cleared that up – here’s to a great 2012 with lots of God-following adventures…
