i have a friend called Wayne Eaves. i’m a big fan.
Wayne has been an incredible encouragement, in particular, this last year as he manages to get the timing perfectly right to send me an irreverent cartoon or a hilarious video clip or challenging article about life and faith and the world. He nails it pretty much every time and he knows just where to push the buttons. Most importantly Wayne keeps it real.
i have wanted to do a Podcast for the longest time but have never found the time or inclination, or the one time i had both of those, the particular skills or equipment to do it well.
Suddenly an opportunity arose to put both of these together. My love for Wayne and the way he thinks and pushes back and questions [particularly the church who we both love but both seriously question in a number of areas] and my desire to do a podcast. And after speaking about it for way too long we decided to finally get around to doing it…
And Stuff that hits Fans was born. Or Stuff Hitting Fans. i’m pretty sure it changes every time, but the words “Stuff” and “Fans” definitely appear and the hope was to provide some kind of critical critique of church and people of faith and the world at large.
If no-one complains in the first four weeks we will very likely toss the whole thing. Our purpose is not to make people complain or be controversial. But to speak Truth as it is, or at least how we see it. And when you do that, studios tend to get touched.
Watch This Space
Today we recorded episodes three and four and as much as we really liked the first two we did, we both agreed that these were a lot closer to what we were wanting it to be. So watch this space. And maybe find Wayne Eaves on Facebook and drop a cute cat video on his page every day until he finally gets around to uploading episode one, cos that should get him moving. It would for me.
But i am very excited for this podcast to drop and hopefully grow and become something that some people might like to tune into. i hope it will challenge and provoke and cause people to question and reconsider and stand in front of the mirror and hopefully in some cases change.
In one of today’s episodes i mention the Passion Conference in Cape Town and we all know how that turned out…
So watch out for “Stuff Hitting Fans” coming soon to a… um, place where podcasts live?… near you.
But also, let’s be honest, if this doesn’t look like the face of a man at least someone is wanting to lock up, then we’re probably not doing something right…
Speak to you soon…
