In the year 2000 the Baha Men released one of the catchiest songs ever.
With the chorus posing that existential question: Who let the dogs out? Who? Who? Who? Who?
And we never received the answer.
16 years later and i was still feeling a little short-changed by that whole thing, so i decided to turn to the Twittererverse for some answers.
And you brought it!
Joining forces with my old Twitterer ‘Nemesis’ and friend [i know!] @KeshaTedder, we set out, to with your help, find the most fun, interesting, misdirectional and random suggestions as to who it could possibly have been.
After last week’s slightly tougher game, i was thoroughly blown away by all the offerings you had to make and reminded again what i enjoy about Hashtagging games. Also this was largely kept clean and family friendly which as you know is how i love to run my games. With emphasis on Clever and Funny and Misdirectional and Random, you tapped into all the things i look for in a game.
As per usual, host and co-host started things off…
And i know this is my own one, but it was one of my favourites on so many levels:
i had to explain who the Highlander was [because there could be only one] as well as Scarface [to say hello to his little friends] because @KeshaTedder and i are from different decades and all, but i think she got this Sting reference which my wife, tbV helped me come up with:
This one i loved just cos the picture i found was so great. And also because it was clever. Go me!
i’m always a big fan of a bit of wordplay, hence this Beatles suggestion and a number of their song titles in the mix:
Oh wait, no actually THIS was probably my favourite and no it’s not my original joke and no i don’t like even using that word but it is just so so so so so great.
And @KeshaTedder also showed up and she is one of the most committed game players i have come across and so always a winner when she joins in:
This was a TERRIBLE TERRIBLE pun to get her started:
#WhoReallyLetTheDogsOutAndWhy Me. I don’t know why but I feel pawful about it
— Kesha Tedder (@KeshaTedder) February 17, 2016
But she more than made up for it with this classic Ghostbusters chirp:
#WhoReallyLetTheDogsOutAndWhy Ghostbusters. They felt the dogs were the something strange in the neighbourhood
— Kesha Tedder (@KeshaTedder) February 17, 2016
As well as this Shaggy follow-up, which is misdirectional points all the way:
#WhoReallyLetTheDogsOutAndWhy Shaggy but he claims it wasn’t him
— Kesha Tedder (@KeshaTedder) February 17, 2016
And after the low of the Oscars, we were back on the charts where we belong:
@AFrikkinHashtag the 1st mention of #WhoReallyLetTheDogsOutAndWhy appears on your TL. Now is Trending Topic in United States! #trndnl

Despite Ed Sheeran’s birthday and Random Acts of Kindness giving us a run for our money in the popular tags of the day…
But we all know you only came here to see if you made the F.L.O.P. and so without much more ado about nothing, here is this week’s:
FISH LIST OF PRIZEWORTHYNESS
You normally have to get up quite early to fool me, but Dave’s tweet took me two reads. So clever:

Fardog had a similar idea to one that i had, but executed it more skillfully with the words:

Steve felt we needed to cast our minds a little further back in history:

And this week, instead of a top three [there were TOO many good ones] i decided
to rather go for a top five cos these all jumped out at me for different reasons
and in no particular order:
Fred who gave a nod back to one of the greatest historical comedic pieces:
#WhoReallyLetTheDogsOutAndWhy Neither. Who has forever been on first while Why tends left field.

But for me, this week’s F.L.O.P. number 1 was Warren who philosophically tweeted:
#WhoReallyLetTheDogsOutAndWhy
“Sometimes,” he said, “things must remain a mystery.” He tossed his cigarette, and walked into the darkness.— Warren Baker (@SideOfHashTags) February 17, 2016
From me @BrettFishA and my co-host @KeshaTedder [who kept her Jar Jar Binks suit off long enough to play] – THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who played. i hope to see you all back again this week as we do a little self-reflection and perhaps even motivate ourselves to set a goal for the rest of 2016…
Don’t forget to download and play on the @HashtagRoundup app if you haven’t yet…
Let’s keep on keeping the WIT in the Twitterer as we hold out for the day when South Africans will trend their own premier Hashtagging Game along with all of you from around the world.
