Podcast Brett Fish

Changing the World one post at a time…

Brett “Fish” Anderson, podcaster, recently-published poet [check out ‘Not water, JUST ICE!’ on Amazon or get a copy directly from the Fishman!], youth leader, Fathers Matter facilitator, Improv actor, and a whole lot more…

With most of the best stuff i do being offered for FREE as much as possible, how does that work? From Tik Tok challenges to Facebook updates to blog posts and podcast episodes, i generally end up paying for most of the content i put out into the world, hoping it will help make it a better place. Which is great and i LOVE it and have always wanted as much of my content to be as freely available as possible. But because i generally have not had the highest paying jobs in the world, that has largely been made possible by friends and fans who have generously helped make it happen from time to time.

A few years ago, a friend of mine, the incredibly talented harpist Christy-Lyn from LearningTheHarp.com encouraged me to start up a Patreon page which invites people who benefit from your stuff to contribute towards your stuff to help the stuff become better produced and more widely distributed so that more people can benefit from your stuff. Which i did and which you can see over here. And i think i started up the Least Successful Patreon page in the history of the site. Largely because i don’t create art or have freebies to offer people who sign up cos i generally give everything away.

Until last year, when an old youth connection from the States jumped in and started donating a very helpful amount every month and it started to enable me to do more than before. The main focus of my Patreon at the moment is my podcast Out of the Fishbowl which i would LOVE to see become better produced and find a lot more ears than it has at the moment. And recently i published my first Justice poetry book, titled, ‘Not water, JUST ICE!’ which is available on Amazon or from me in Cape Town and which i am quite proud of. And would Love to perhaps be able to do some more in the future.

How you can get involved

i don’t particularly like the idea of asking people for money. BUT i really don’t mind the idea of a group of people contributing small amounts that added together make a bigger amount that makes it possible for me to become better at the things i do, whether buying a new laptop or better microphone or perhaps studio time so i can get the podcast recorded with better quality.

So here is the ask. If you find the content i produce [podcasts, blogs, Tik Tok videos, facebook statuses] helpful and challenging in any way, and would Love to play a small part in increasing the production or capacity level or reach of any of those, would you consider becoming a patreon for the small sum of 1 dollar per month? For overseas people it might even be easy to make it 5 or 10 dollars as that adds up really quickly here.

The Hope and Dream is that this then becomes something that WE are all doing together, not just me, as it has been for so many years. As a Patron on the site there is invitation to help shape the content [give ideas for podcasts or blog posts and maybe even collaborate on some of them] and have a little more of a say in terms of what happens.

And for many of you, the dollar or five or ten, will be something you can give without even noticing it, particularly so that those who can’t afford to attend conferences or buy books or subscribe to costly programmes can continue to have access for FREE.

We can help build this world together into a better more caring and more Kind place that works a whole lot better for everyone in it. Which goes nicely against a lot of the narrative we see in the news at the moment.

How about it? If you’re interested, give this a click and see how it goes. You can choose to unsubscribe at any time with no hard feelings.

i look forward to seeing this community grow so that we can actually lean a lot more into the collaborating and engaging side of things. Have a lekker year, bye!
