i hate white people!
i know, i know, i could barely believe it myself when i found out, but having heard so many people suggest it on my blog the past week or two [some in comments i chose not to print due to their not-fit-to-be-read-by-other-humans content] it really must be true.
It started when i started suggesting that i don’t think white people are better than black people [if i had a dollar for every email pointing me towards either inventions or I.Q. test results as proof of why white people are clearly better, i’d have dollars – strangely they never cite the electric chair, nuclear bombs or Adolph Hitler in their ‘white people are better’ speeches]
It became more glaringly obvious when i suggested the phenomena of ‘White Privilege’ was an actual thing, because clearly nothing says, ‘I hate white people!’ than the suggestion that we might for the most part be at a bit of an advantage starting off in this country simply because we are white…
In case you don’t believe me, here are some of the thoughts of visitors that i have been able to publish from this last week as parts of comments on my blog:
Listen here dimwit. I am sick to death of being told that because I am white I am privileged, [Tony]
Do you sell drugs to earn a living? How do you afford tablets, TV, car travelling to the USA? Going to shows, cricket, and so on? Or are you a trustfund kid? Please do tell oh enlightened one how you can afford this lifestyle of lazing about, writing nonsense and hate speech against whites, watching cricket all day and generally living like a teenager at your parents house.[Melanie]
Who pays you for all this lazing about, talking about how bad whites are and how they must bend for blacks…? [Melanie]
Lets hope that if we do somehow survive this, that never ever ever again will we share this land, never ever ever again show any form of mercy to these savages, shoot all on the spot or if not we can simply repeat this exercise [Francois Du Toit]
Francois does have a bit of a point there. i really don’t believe that someone who refers to black people as ‘savages’ should ever be allowed to share land with them and the sooner you head off to another country on another continent, the better for us all, sir.
Well, i have a bit of a secret to share. i actually do like white people. Heck, some of my best friends are white.
i don’t want anyone to apologise for being white.
i don’t want anyone to be going on about how bad white people are.
i certainly do not encourage hate speech against white people.
However, at the same time, i have a bit of another secret to share. I kinda like black people. Heck, some of my best new friends in recent times have been black.
i don’t want anyone to apologise for being black.
i don’t want anyone to be going on about how bad black people are.
i certainly do not encourage hate speech against black people.
A FRIENDLY SUGGESTION
This blog, among other things, is going to be a space where time and energy is given to seeing how we as people of different colours and cultures [and i include all of those who don’t merely fall into black or white here] can work together to create a unified, transformed society where the majority of people can live in freedom with balance in terms of the opportunities they have.
If you don’t like the idea of that, then my suggestion would be to you, to go somewhere else. This is my blog which means i get to choose what happens here and what doesn’t. You are under no obligation to spend any time here. i am certainly under no compulsion to give your racist and hateful words and ideas and airtime. If you don’t like what happens here, why do you keep on coming back?
If, however, you want to disagree with me [or ideas being shared here] and challenge what is being spoken about, or share a different opinion and have the means to be able to do that respectfully to all involved then be my absolute guest. This is a wrestling ground where we will search for truth, life and hope together. i certainly don’t know all the answers and feel like i’m fumbling my way towards them at the best of times. We need to see a whole lot more people engaging here and trying to work out the next step forward with us. So bring your friends. Be chatting about these things over dinner tables. Be inspiring and hope-giving and full of life.
Tony, Melanie, Francois, Jacques and others who have visited here and posted words that have felt mean, unhelpful and at times hate-filled… this door will always be open to you – the stage won’t be and until you can change your tone you won’t be getting as much access to the mic. as some others might. But we would love for you to invest and engage and be open to ideas outside of your own, to leave the fear at the door and start listening to some stories from people who are different to you. And consider the possibility of joining hands with them to help create a united future for us all.
What do you do to earn money? Or do you bum?
Well, at the moment, my wife and i work for two different non-profit organisations but i have just come off of a year of working two jobs and back in the day there was a time when i was working three jobs to be able to do the things i wanted to do. i don’t think that has any relevance to how i feel about this particular conversation. What work do you do Mel? And more importantly, i would like to know why are you so against black people? Bad experience at some stage in your life? If you are genuinely seeking conversation and being part of the wrestling towards truth and freedom then you are much welcome on this blog, but you have been rude and dismissive [and personal – not sure why you felt it necessary to attack my tattoo] and so why would anyone being on the receiving end of any of that come to the conclusion that your questions are genuine. There has been no evidence of that – just of fear, anger and lack of hope which is a pity cos there are so many stories of hope coming out of this nation. If you are not interested in that then moving to a place like Canada or Australia i imagine would be completely appealing to you. Why say in South Africa if you don’t choose to be part of the solution?
Because I feel like a slave to them. That’s the main reason. They also sing about killing us. BEE and AA. It’s as if we not wanted here. So we must fight back. I also have to fear being raped. I know of 2 white girls who were raped by blacks. They had to take anti retrovirus drugs. I think you are ignorant and get paid to pretend to look for solutions. However you don’t trust blacks as you would not feel safe if your wife went alone into townships at night.
It must be difficult to live with such fear. I am really sorry to hear about your friends. Rape is always a horrible thing, whether committed by black or white people. You should be careful making statements about things you know nothing about. I lived in a township for 18 months before i got married and my now wife visited a bunch of times and spent some nights there. She grew up in the Philippine islands and you have no idea of how hardcore she is. Instead of flinging accusations, why not take some time to get to know me. Ask more questions. Imagine what your life would look like without any of that fear that seems to be driving so many of your responses. Have a great weekend, Mel, really.
White people are more technologically advanced! This is the reason for inequality. There I said it. Now deal with it or argue your side…..?
Melanie, what you say is somewhat true. Many advances in technology have come from white people. Of course, we had a bit of help from the Arabs and Indians who invented mathematics … and I think the ancient Chinese contributed a bit of this and that here and there. But before you argue that Black Africans didn’t invent anything of a scientific or technological nature until others came along and … ummm … enslaved them – which may well be true – I want to question your basic premise. You seem to imply that being technologically advanced is the same as being better, or more worthwhile. Is that really what you believe? Because I can’t think of a SINGLE technological “advancement” that hasn’t come at huge cost in the form of environmental destruction and diminishing human happiness. All this technology … it SHOULD make us healthier, happier and better off. But it seems there is something lacking in human beings’ ability to make wise and responsible choices about how they use these toys that tarnishes our hope of a better world.
Some years ago I lived within a rural Black community in SA for several years. I’m not going to romanticize that time – the people, as individuals, were all far from perfect, and they had all suffered the destructive effects of westernisation. But while I was there I saw something in the old, traditional ways of functioning as a community and making community decisions that was extraordinarily wise. It wasn’t perfect – it was a human system – but it did leave me wondering if we might all be better of if we who aren’t Black Africans were willing to learn from them. It seems to me there are more ways of contributing to humanity than a talent for making toys.
Oh Brett. Why oh why do you let them comment? I can hardly breathe.
I know Megs. But you should see the fifty i didn’t. Part of it is just to be reminded of what is out there.
Hey Brett!
As always, I love reading your thoughts. This discourse is something that is incredibly needed- unfortunately not everyone can see that. But, hopefully, someday they will.
Thankx T. Been a bit rough with some of the visitations of late but hopefully some of the right people are reading as well…
I cannot say that I hate white people, I am a coloured person that is 37 years old. And as for living in South Africa. Somehow I managed to escape the worst of it and grew up in the tail end of the riots.
I don’t hink any human is better than the next. But somehow if one goes into history we can see the perfectors of this were the British. Somehow that little “landing strip in size” ruled the world by simply getting people to believe that the English are better than the rest.
Colour we are born with….. now stupidity is a choice. I will not point fingers, but the only thing I fail to understand was that there was never a public aknowledgement that the white people at the time were wrong. And they were. Granted one cannot blame the current people for the past doings, but the current people surely have benefited. Not always in financial and material things, but in perception. One thing a white person will never know is the perception when one walks in a room. The unconcious acceptance of white people and the weariness people have towards coloured and black people and all the stereotypes involved. I must admit I tend to comment out loud mostly just to make the situation more bearable. White people talk softer and mind their words more carefully when I am around. Look I grew up among white people so I don’t fear them. But perceptions of people overrule facts and truth. Very few people in life will challenge that.
I don’t want to write an essay here, but I know we move forward and work through these things, but that will be a struggling process unless some form of collective restitution happens. Acknowledging being wrong and less defence will go a log way I think.
“Sorry guys we took land and made you our slaves and made you believe you were less than human, we have benefited unduly from that actions made in history by our forefathers, now we can sit in coffee shops while you have to walk from the township to work. But we are willing to help train you for the long term so that in a few generations we can all be equal in mind and physically. Sorry we cannot change the past now, but we are willing to work together with you.”
Or something like that.
Thankx Lynlet – i think this sums your statement up: Sorry we cannot change the past now, but we are willing to work together with you.”
If South Africans could all just grab hold of that, we would be a long way ahead…
love brett fish
Why train them if we don’t have to? Too much effort especially as blacks have so many kids. Life is short, we want to enjoy it, not sit training others. Why not go to lands up north or Karoo and live without training and modern technology? It would be easier.
I think some people would find enjoyment and significance in life from helping others who might be less fortunate than themselves to have the same kind of chances in life that they enjoy. Others simply want to focus on themselves and have fun. I definitely find meaning in life from looking outside of myself and trying to help others. It doesn’t feel like something i am forced to do, but something to take delight in. Although there are way many people doing if so much better than i sm snd i realise i have a long way to go.
Each to his own. If it floats your boat then do it. Very noble of you. I’ve tried and many just won’t learn or are not intelligent enough to grasp simple concepts. Very frustrating so I just accept it and live my own life. Maybe they should go back to the eastern Cape and live a rural existence there. Why force them into the modern age.
I’m interested to hear some more about the ways you have trued, Eugene? Also not sure anyone is forcing anyone into the modern age. When last did you invent something? Do you understand how to make a television? Or have the abolity to build a craft that flies? I certainly don’t. But i am happy to gratefully use the inventions of others. And walk alongside others as i do, some who know more than me and some less. The more we take time to actualky get to know people and hear their stories i think the more compassionate we become snd eager to help others succeed as well.
Yes I have invented a few things and have 2 patents on rsa encryption. I know how a TV works and an airplane. I’m willing to learn and instead of drinking and partying or watching sports, I am studying.
Ah good for you, Eugene. Sounds like you’re really making something of your life which is great. Now if you can only look to helping others who want the same for their lived to succeed in their goals, you will be well on your way. All the best with the studies.
You know it’s been proven blacks have lower iq. But they still people and we need to help them. Iq is not everything either! I have a iq of about 90 and I still get through life, so many blacks are more clever than me. They help me as well. So we should try help where we can as it leads to a better environment.
