A widow, a rich man and a holy little Jesus huddle

What does how we give our money say about us? There is a beautiful short story hidden at the end of Mark 12 that doesn't get enough attention. 41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. 43 Calling his [...]

Life in the no-work place

So, after i finish this post i am heading out to a potential work thing. There is another possibility a friend mentioned the other day - doing something i would really enjoy and love to do in an area i have wanted to spend a lot more time in. But i don't know whether it is actually going to be a job and if so when it will be available for me. Besides that, i [...]

Make South Africa great again!

Make South Africa great? When Donald Trump runs a campaign with the slogan, "Make Americaland great again!" a large majority of white Americans cheer, because they have grown up with the notion that America is the greatest country on earth and with crime and unemployment and some other issues on the rise, we clearly just need to get it back to where it was. Black America is not so sure. "Great again" like when Jim [...]

Witnessing the Cult of the Ekac

i witnessed a bizarre and strange thing today. A frenzied group of people stood at a bit of a distance as the two lead people were ceremoniously handed a long dagger. The crowd seemed completely mesmerised by this ritual that was being carried out in front of them and started cheering and screaming, urging them to make the first cut. Man and woman stood silently, holding the knife poised as if deciding which of them [...]

The Good, The Bad and “You’re Ugly!”

It was the best of Social Medias, it was the worst of Social Medias. i mean, let's be honest, i don't tend towards being a 'go gently into that good night' kind of person when it comes to the online. Or the offline. Or an unattended chocolate fountain, to be honest, but that's just your fault wedding reception i wasn't even invited to! MMmm, cho-co-late fountain.... now, where was i? Oh yes, social media. Well [...]

Thoughts on being a real man

This is a status i posted on Facebook today which i thought would be a bit more easy to share as a blog post and i hope that men [in particular] who agree with what is written here, will share it on your wall and via your Twitterer accounts as a sign of saying you agree and are committed to being part Menfolk, listen up. On more than one occasion, my wife, Valerie, has been [...]

With my wife tbV kicking it off and setting the foundation and then just amazing speaker after amazing speaker knocking it out of the park. The edited videos will be up in a while, but i think some of the talks are already available on their Facebook page over here. [...]
