Thoughts on being a real man

This is a status i posted on Facebook today which i thought would be a bit more easy to share as a blog post and i hope that men [in particular] who agree with what is written here, will share it on your wall and via your Twitterer accounts as a sign of saying you agree and are committed to being part Menfolk, listen up. On more than one occasion, my wife, Valerie, has been [...]

Change Cape Town: Outliers event 2017

So last night was the annual Outliers event and it was incredible - six speakers, six talks, ten minutes each, with ten slides accompanying them. With my wife tbV kicking it off and setting the foundation and then just amazing speaker after amazing speaker knocking it out of the park. The edited videos will be up in a while, but i think some of the talks are already available on their Facebook page over here. [...]

Let me entertain you [slash your business]

As we head into the last quarter of the year [WHAT? How did that even happen?] there are two ways in which i may be able to assist you if you work in an office environment, and vice versa. [1] Corporate Improv: We are heading towards the end of the year when businesses start thinking about Christmas parties and staff functions and if you are the person with the link to the entertainment budget then [...]

More thoughts on ‘Thoughts on the New South Africa’ – Neville Alexander

i shared some of Neville Alexander's thoughts with regards to capitalism in my first post on his book, 'Thoughts on the New South Africa' which you can read over here. This is a second passage which stood out for me. In it, Neville Alexander speaks against the notion of fighting for top spot and creates a vision of the creatives and visionaries of the country helping create a road map to lead us to where [...]

My thoughts on ‘Thoughts on the New South Africa’ – Neville Alexander

i recently read 'Thoughts on the New South Africa' by Neville Alexander which my friend Ashley Visagie lent to me. Now for anyone who doesn't know Ashley Visagie, if the term 'thought leader' applies to anyone in South Africa with regards to education and poverty and identity and so much more, it would have to be him. So when he gives you a book, you read it. i'm not sure if i would have read [...]

the question of anger

What do we do with anger on the internet? It's five days later and i have found writing part II of this anger piece pretty difficult. Part I dealt with Jesus and His take on anger and violence which was, in essence, a book study, and so pretty straightforward - this is what i read, this is how i interpret it... while now we are talking about people and a thousand of them so different [...]

Dear Fish: What do we do with the anger?

i received an email from a friend of mine on Facebook who is asking some questions that relate quite strongly to some stuff i have been giving a lot of thought to, especially this last week. i think it's a bit of a minefield, to be honest. But i also think it's high time we stepped into this one: Morning 😊 I've been thinking about ANGER and VIOLENCE. I think that so many people dismiss [...]

A Frikkin Hashtag: #RhymeAnApology

Not everyone feels like they have the skills of a poet. But everyone has had to give an apology at some time... so we decided to give you all a chance at letting out your inner Suess as we attempted to #RhymeAnApology [The Story So Far: Every Wednesday at 12 noon South African time [6am EDT] an inspired and growing number of brilliant, creative and absolutely fun people from all around the world take part in [...]

Different strokes

So yesterday i visited my first ever stroke victim's support group.  i should perhaps clarify up front that i have not had a stroke. My friend Stephanie runs the group and invited me to come and check it out after i had an encounter with a stroke victim at the clinic she runs speech therapy at, which led to this status last week: i walked into a clinic today to drop a book off for [...]
