re:cycling

hm. you know, having had a bit of a chance to think about it [once i crawled out from under the pile of stones] i think there is some point to the judgements that have been made. i say 'judgements' because they have come across like that which i find very sad. maybe it's in line with the fact that it's virtually impossible to read tone into emails and so someone might be saying 'hey, [...]

the ABC of writing a blog, and invoking hate speech and candyfloss

i used to think a blog was just a way to get your thorts down... in a public space because yes someone else might be interested in hearing what you think; or else it was an opportunity to make some laugh or challenge someone about life and living; and of course the opportunity to have moments of complete randomness, because i like random. it helps fill in the gaps. but i'm learning that that is [...]

we count yourself lucky.

some of you may remember that for my birthday this year, my beautiful wife Val took my blokarting which was a windsurfing meets go-karting on the beach extravaganza of much fun... and we got the whole deal for 50% off which was a huge bargain... basically how it happened was just before my birthday tbV discovered this rad site that has a special offer for every day - it started in Joburg and moved to [...]

can't i just enjoy this big thing first?

what is with people and 'the next big thing?' - you've been single forever and you finally get yourself a girlfriend and within a month or two (especially if you're older) people are like, "so, when's the big day?" you get married and within a month or two (way before the plans settle on any kind of one year wedding anniversary preparation) it's the knowing smirks and, "so, kids hey?" and so on, and those [...]

for the determinedly board [game recommendation – Settlers of Catan]

who remembers - with great reminiscory reverberations - sitting up all nite as a lightie playing monopoly til all hours of the morning? [pretty much the only way to finish a decent game] or waging full on risk warfare with your little yellow three edge single men wedges and your bigger yellow five edge ten-men wedges until you had cornered the last remaining opponent in australia and piled the biggest force known to world domination [...]

two roads scrabbled in the woods, and i scored 167…

just got the word 'diverges' over two triple words (e on a double letter, s was a blank) and scored 167 in online scrabble which is some 40 plus points more than my biggest word before... was a game my beautiful wife started with a 7 letter word so a nice comeback and i finished with 500 plus for i think the second time ever. in other news just made some savoury muffins with which [...]

a good old fashioned game of sardi’s…

there is a verse from revelations which has been running thru my head - it's the one where john has the vision of the messages given to the seven churches and is found in rev 3.1-3 and says, "i know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. wake up! strengthen what remains and is about to die, for i have not found your deeds complete in the sight of [...]

botswanan reflections: next year

so botswana was hot. very hot. hotter than the camembert cheese (or lack thereof) in the monty python 'the cheese shop' skit was runny. and so a lot of the time it was a case of existing and surviving and seeking shade. but there was some contemplation that took place, in between the gaps (surely you mean 'in the gaps?' - yes, quite, i clearly panic'd!) about life, the universe, and a whole bunch of [...]
