perfection quotient

has anyone heard of this new term being bandied about - perfection quotient - as a purely subjective means of describing a thing in terms of how closely it comes - in your mind and appreciation - to being perfect... so yesterday i made a peppermint crisp tart which was incredible but definitely not perfect so i would give it a perfection quotient of 1.3 which means basically it scores an 8.7 out of ten [...]

Jesus – half fully God-man?

i have just started reading a book called ‘Exiles – Living Missionally in a Post Christian Culture’ by Michael Frost and wow i am really digging it – read it! christians like to throw around the phrase ‘Jesus was fully man and fully God’ and that has never made sense to me – i understand that a carrot can be fully a vegetable and fully a food because both things are the same and one [...]

POME: the very nature of things [written at Namrock ‘10]

wind, take a bough then send it crashing to the ground water, flow slowly along pummelling, pummelling, the rocks beneath the surface smoothing their edges by sheer  weight of temporal force little bird, glide smoothly through the air then swoop, crashing through the water’s uncreased surface and fly away once more, carrying death back to feed your children blow, gentle cool breeze upon the dying embers breathing new life into them breathing, breathing and suddenly [...]

sent to meet her from the world cup round two

five centimeters... from a huge upset and a big chance of Bafana Bafana progressing to the second round of the world cup which no white person predicted (let's be honest) - oh wait i mean expected cos i spent the whole week predicting a Bafana Bafana 2-1 win over Mexico and it was that close - just sent-to-meet-her's past the post to deny what would have been an incredible victory we decided to go watch [...]

oh shucks it's trigger happy

was it just me or did anyone else watching the latest Leon Shuster movie notice the two BLATANT thieveries he committed from that brilliant show 'Trigger Happy' from the UK [think man in snail suit crawling across pedestrian crossing in front of a growing irate stream of traffic or else people in giant animal suits beating each other up and of course the giant cellphone and nokia ringtone - "HELLO, WHAT? NO I'M IN A [...]

oh shucks, you're racist!

so my good friend megan – who i used to watch bad movies with (not bad as in naughty, but we used to on occasion find something that would more than likely be awful and watch it and usually have one or two classic lines that would be private joke humour and that i would occasionally sneak into a sermon in church so megan would just break into raucous laughter and everyone would think she [...]

appear-ignore-ance vs being

it struck me this week like an intentionally mischievous bolt of lightning with a chip on its shoulder - following two or three different incidences between me/tbV and other people - that people, for the most part, would much rather appear right than be right. and it blows my mind i think mostly because i hunger to be right. i am passionate about real. not fake. not masked. not appearance. but reality. and truth. and [...]

rowing the mance

i find loving my wife very easy. and i’m not just talking about the flutter flutter feeling “ooh i luv my wife” but love in action i would like to imagine everyone loves their wife as well as i do but i’m sure a lot of people don’t. and i’m not talking from an arrogant point of “ooh look at me, look at how well i love my wife” but just a day to day [...]

new pome: from the edge

Quiet. Except for the wind, whistling past me. Signalling its presence with the effect it has on A chocolate paper, at my feet Now gone, blown on Blown against the side of the bridge Where i am standing Forced against the cold metal It flutters its resistance But it is held there And it can not resist ‘Resistance is futile’ So they told me So You told me On that day long ago when i [...]

the word church, 'church', church is a verb.

last nite at enGAGE (our sunday evening vineyard church congregation weekly gathering) we held an open mic vibe not after ‘church’, not on a different day to ‘church’, not instead of ‘church’, but as church, and it was great it was a celebration of some of the talents and giftings that God has placed in different people in our group and so we sat around tables and munched on chips and sweets and spinach and [...]
