a season for holy mischief (shane claiborne)

if you haven't read 'The Irresistible Revolution' by shane claiborne yet, then you don't have to, but i would highly recommend it, altho it may wreck you as a compromising comfortable christian and start turning you into a revolutionary Christ-follower - read what he has to say about the season... 'Critiquing the thick irony of the Christmas season is fair. It's ludicrous that we celebrate the birth of the homeless baby Jesus by indulging in [...]

how to thrash your Christmas in 2010

an excerpt from this week's thort for the week that i send out with some ways you can really have a great Christmas... The bottom line is you can get creative – i will share a few ideas here but it doesn’t take a brain scientist to work this out – look after the poor, needy, lonely, sick in some way this Christmas and share Christ’s love in action... [1] Present-giving – as our main [...]

botswanan reflections: a couple to follow

so blah blah blah botswana trip... we went up with our friends dreadlock mike (dreads) and nancy the twin (twin) and two of their friend couples and i could possibly blog a lot about living with all three for the week... but the one i want to briefly write about is a couple who were mike and nancy's groomsman and bridesmaid respectively... a physio for the sharks and a high level manager type product control [...]

‘raped’ as a fun catch phrase, tweeting tragedy instead of assisting…

what next? leaving the old people outside for the coyotes to finish them off...? sounds far fetched maybe, but i have just been thoroughly revolted by what i have just read [and i know in this day and age we can get mildly upset and tut tutty and each-to-their-own-device but maybe it's time for people to stand up and SHOUT WILDLY AGAINST THIS KIND OF FILTH...] and we need to draw a line... it started [...]

why i hate cars

cars are stupid - i can prove it - they have been used to kill people - drunk drivers in cars have recklessly taken thousands of innocent lives in our country alone - old cars get rusty and dangerous because people often can't afford to give them proper maintainence and take them off the road when they should go - don't get me started on woman drivers - or men drivers - in fact we [...]

lausanne reflections: some thoughts on globalisation

we watched a panel do some talking around the theme of globalisation yesterday and i jotted down some interesting lines and thorts on my phone while it was happening: with globalisation there are three stages we need to go through: - we need to discern - we need to assess - we need to engage is it right or wrong, it is good or bad, is it useful or useless - too often as the [...]

lausanne reflections: pied the piper

listened to an ephesians 3 devotional by john piper who i have heard a lot about but have never heard or read any of his stuff before - really want to go back and watch that clip without sound because he looks a bit like a muppet on steroids - very energetic in movement anyways i wasn't overly inspired by most of what he said until right at the end when he basically said there [...]

drink for yourself

so there is a new campaign in town and apart from some silliness like the whole main thrust of it being that if you don't like coffee you are okay, i thort (hi lisa) that it was very well written and even contained moments of humourous - my friend simon from the brothers streep wrote it and is a very funny guy who occasionally constructs pirate ships out of lego (possibly other substances too, but [...]
