‘raped’ as a fun catch phrase, tweeting tragedy instead of assisting…

what next? leaving the old people outside for the coyotes to finish them off...? sounds far fetched maybe, but i have just been thoroughly revolted by what i have just read [and i know in this day and age we can get mildly upset and tut tutty and each-to-their-own-device but maybe it's time for people to stand up and SHOUT WILDLY AGAINST THIS KIND OF FILTH...] and we need to draw a line... it started [...]

plans for new years? how about arisefesting with us…

i have had mixed experiences with new years eves and days - more often they have involved me running around trying to organise events and keep everyone else organised or entertained or worshipping or something like that and generally the ones where i have managed to avoid planning/organising/running anything have been the good ones [altho i do have great memories of some of the others don't get me wrong] and last year's hike to cape [...]

still (theatre)sporting after all of these years

so this last saturday TheatreSports turned 17 – that’s right, cape town’s longest running show and too-often best kept secret has been running for 17 years, and i have been around for ten of them... we celebrated with a halloween themed birthday show in the little theatre opposite the intimate theatre where we perform every monday night at 8.30 (you should come!) – it was a bumper show with no less than 12 of our [...]

lausanne reflections: how deep are your prints

the one thing that stood out for me yesterday from the lausanne footage we watched was the dude doing the ephesians 4 devotional who spoke about how some people can look at a footprint in the sand and know if it was a woman or a man, if it was someone old or young, if that person is carrying a burden or not, if that person has a slouch or walks straight and tall... he [...]

lausanne reflections: some thoughts on globalisation

we watched a panel do some talking around the theme of globalisation yesterday and i jotted down some interesting lines and thorts on my phone while it was happening: with globalisation there are three stages we need to go through: - we need to discern - we need to assess - we need to engage is it right or wrong, it is good or bad, is it useful or useless - too often as the [...]

lausanne reflections: pied the piper

listened to an ephesians 3 devotional by john piper who i have heard a lot about but have never heard or read any of his stuff before - really want to go back and watch that clip without sound because he looks a bit like a muppet on steroids - very energetic in movement anyways i wasn't overly inspired by most of what he said until right at the end when he basically said there [...]

lausanne reflections: the ten minute standing ovation

the beautiful val told me of a testimony that was shared the other night at the lausanne congress where the girl sharing it quickly left the stage after speaking and disappeared behind the curtain but the crowd of 4000 plus people stood and applauded and cheered and continued for ten minutes and so they brought her back on to stage while people continued to respond to her powerful testimony - i was hoping to be [...]

lausanne reflections: peeling away manchurch

so one of the things that came out of yesterday's discussions when we were looking at the christian faith existing in a pluralistic multi-faith society was the need to understand what we mean by church... one of the problems that the church faces today is that what we see as church is a combination of what church is meant to be about (according to God and the Bible) plus tradition and style and denomination and [...]
