i love my wife [we don't have kids, but if you do have kids, that is one of the best presents you can give them - love your wife well. right now, we will have to model that for other peoples kids] and today she really outdid herself with my Christmas present. i gave her a bunch of stuff - she gave me a bunch of people. my friends. my wife gave me my friends [...]
it is fascinating to see what gets christians all passionate and excited (in a pitchfork and flaming torches mob kind of way) - i remember the whole furore around the Christmas to X-mas campaign with stickers and articles and sermons declaring 'put the Christ back into X-mas' [it is only mildly funny that those people would campaign so strongly about that and yet for the most part be completely sucked into the capitalistic greed-focus of [...]
i had this epiphony in the shower the other day - if the only Bible'ing and praying you do is at your church gathering on a sunday once a week, then you don't have a relationship with God, you have a relationship with church. and i think that's how a lot of people live - their spiritual life is their relationship with the meeting on a sunday it becomes a little bit memento meets inception [...]
so this last weekend the beautiful val (now tbsv but hoping and praying she gets over the sickly superquick) and i were uber privileged to be a part of the formerly claremont meths church, now combo churches, camp simply titled 'Go' we were meant to be part of a national vineyard youth camp (in bloem) which for various reasons didn't work out and so we transferred all our guys to the mizpah campsite camp in [...]
there is a verse from revelations which has been running thru my head - it's the one where john has the vision of the messages given to the seven churches and is found in rev 3.1-3 and says, "i know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. wake up! strengthen what remains and is about to die, for i have not found your deeds complete in the sight of [...]

so botswana was hot. very hot. hotter than the camembert cheese (or lack thereof) in the monty python 'the cheese shop' skit was runny. and so a lot of the time it was a case of existing and surviving and seeking shade. but there was some contemplation that took place, in between the gaps (surely you mean 'in the gaps?' - yes, quite, i clearly panic'd!) about life, the universe, and a whole bunch of [...]
so last nite the beautiful val and i flew to kwazulu natal where we met up with dreadlock mike and nancy who we are driving up to botswana with (but that's another post) and on the plane we got talking to stan who was a friendly-seeming guy sitting next to us [no CATFLAP MAN on this flight...] and got chatting cos we were sodukuing and his wife is an avid sodukuer [stan's wife, not CATFLAP [...]
imagine this in badly drawn stick figures if you will: God and man (as in mankind/people) in harmonious relationship walking together in the garden, the place of creation, unified in relationship, God somehow receiving something from this engagement with His creation. something happens - man decides to choose self over obedience to God and relationship breaks down - we have the word 'sin' but really it is simply an indication of relationship gone wrong, breakdown [...]
