Taboo Topics: Adoption – meet Jane and Mike

My husband mike and I decided to start a family at the beginning of last year and so I went off contraception and we started trying. We assumed it would be quick and easy, because we have only heard stories of people falling pregnant quickly – even in the first or second month, and with no complications. And so the first month or two we weren’t worried, we enjoyed the excitement of getting ready to [...]

psalmthing to chew on: psalm 30

i have two parts underlined in this psalm so i'll stick with those: 'Sing the praises of the Lord, you his faithful people; praise his holy name. For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.' [vs. 4-5] this is a very light and hopeful psalm [and well you hope it should be as it was used for the [...]

Taboo Topics: Adoption – meet Tyron and Caraleigh

Hey Brett Thanks for the opportunity to share on your “Taboo Topics” series in regards to adoption. This is our story thus far: Myself and Caraleigh decided to pursue adopting Andrew around mid-Jan 2012. We are currently waiting for the adoption to be finalised. This is a process that requires much patience & prayer, but it’s looking really good so far, even better than normal cases for some ‘God-intervening’ reasons I’m sure. In the meantime [...]

psalmthing to chew on: psalm 29

what struck me immediately about this psalm is where it begins, with a loud chorus of praise to God, acknowledging Who He is: 'Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his[a] holiness.' [vs.1-2] that even the heavenly beings must sing praises to God. that is great - often i rush into prayer [...]

Taboo Topics: Losing a baby – some last stories and links.

When i started writing this blog series on people who have had miscarriages/lost babies, i was overwhelmed with the response i got, because in my life experience i had never come across many stories of this happening but i had heard that it happens a lot more than we think. And so i really am truly grateful for everyone who shared personally and for those who linked me to friends of theirs. With people being [...]

Taboo Topics: Losing a baby – meet Sandra and Shane [my parents-in-law]

one imagines that once you are pregnant all goes well and a perfect offspring is born. that's how i felt cos i'd had an easy 1st pregnancy and my daughter(Ro-anne) was perfect. so when i was pregnant again i was soo shocked when i started bleeding, the doc told me to go to bed but nothing helped i lost the baby. i was devastated especially as i did not have a DnC but flushed my [...]

psalmthing to chew on: psalm 28

ooh, i'm not sure i like this psalm, or maybe more importantly where my reading of it took me... cos it's david again, being a self-righteous plonker: 'Do not drag me away with the wicked, with those who do evil, who speak cordially with their neighbors but harbor malice in their hearts. Repay them for their deeds and for their evil work; repay them for what their hands have done and bring back on them [...]

to celebrate a 40 million something goal is human, to forgive is divine…

i imagine this is a much bigger post or discussion than what will fit in here but let's get it started... a soccer player [who was worth something like 40 million something - does it really matter when you hit 40 million whether the next word is pounds, euros or dollars?] scores a goal. a hundred facebook statuses [stati?] read something along the lines of 'amazing goal - so worth the money spent' i get [...]

psalmthing to chew on: psalm 27

this is a great psalm... so rich... but i am just going to pull out one or two things as usual and once again would love to hear what stood out for you... 'The Lord is my light and my salvation — whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life — of whom shall I be afraid?' [vs.1] such a strong, powerful start and the reminder to us that this is [...]

psalmthing to chew on: psalm 26

and i move on to psalm 26, and another psalm of david clearly set before the little bathsheba incident [2 samuel 11] where he starts by proclaiming how good and righteous he has been and inviting God to 'examine my heart and my mind' [vs. 2] which is a great practice to take from this psalm [altho maybe without the assumption of being clean and pure and righteous, unless it's been a good week for [...]
