not quite as simple, it seems

so yesterday's "this is what the andersons are going to be up to" bloggage received a lot more attention than i suspected it would, and pretty firmly divided into two groups of responses: those who knew us, who said nice things about us and wished us good times and most importantly got excited with us for this adventure that we are about to embark on those who don't know us who by and large said [...]

simple is the way

so after weeks and months it is finally official - the beautiful val and myself received an invite letter from the simple way to join them by 15 june to start a 19 month job slash ministry... for those of you who don't know anything about the simple way i suggest you get hold of a book called 'the irresistible revolution' by a guy called shane claiborne - one of my top three books ever [...]

re:cycling

hm. you know, having had a bit of a chance to think about it [once i crawled out from under the pile of stones] i think there is some point to the judgements that have been made. i say 'judgements' because they have come across like that which i find very sad. maybe it's in line with the fact that it's virtually impossible to read tone into emails and so someone might be saying 'hey, [...]

the ABC of writing a blog, and invoking hate speech and candyfloss

i used to think a blog was just a way to get your thorts down... in a public space because yes someone else might be interested in hearing what you think; or else it was an opportunity to make some laugh or challenge someone about life and living; and of course the opportunity to have moments of complete randomness, because i like random. it helps fill in the gaps. but i'm learning that that is [...]

Downward Mobility in an Upscale World – shane claiborne speaks…

been wandering around the simple way page and reading thru a couple of shane's articles and really being inspired and challenged and challenged to inspire... here is an extract from 'Downward Mobility in an Upscale World', an article by Shane Claiborne "Over the years I have come to see how charity fits into — and legitimizes — our system of wealth and poverty. Charity assures that the rich will feel good while the poor will [...]

everyone's doing it… well not really, but they SHOULD!!!

this might sound like a devious marketing scheme, but it's not - everybody should do the TheatreSports course, everybody... for those of you who have no idea what TheatreSports is, where have you been? Only Cape Town's longest running live show [and best kept secret it seems way too much] TheatreSports is our local 'Whose Line is it Anyway?' type improv comedy show where absolutely everything is made up on the spot - two teams [...]

R2U2… or 'd' or something…

so friday nite there was a U2 concert or something, apparently.. you wouldn't know by being on facebook at all - hardly a person mentioned whether they were going or not going or hating everyone that was going and kept reminding them about it or throwing their Steve Hofmeyer (very pricey tickets) into the Jukskei river (my favourite one) in protest... and it's weird cos ever since i knew U2 were coming to South Africa [...]

can i not just start enjoying this big thing now?

not to be confused with 'can't i just enjoy this big thing first?' some people refuse to let go of stuff. and it kills them. some people it actually genuinely physically kills them, cos you can trace ulcers and other stress-related diseases and conditions to the unforgiveness and disappointments that they held onto for a considerable amount of their lives someone once said "holding onto unforgiveness is like drinking a cup of poison and hoping [...]

can't i just enjoy this big thing first?

what is with people and 'the next big thing?' - you've been single forever and you finally get yourself a girlfriend and within a month or two (especially if you're older) people are like, "so, when's the big day?" you get married and within a month or two (way before the plans settle on any kind of one year wedding anniversary preparation) it's the knowing smirks and, "so, kids hey?" and so on, and those [...]

put your hands down and step away from the baby…

okay i've posted quite a bit today already so those 5 of you who subscribe and are getting notification emails must really be hating... but this one i couldn't resist, and i have been fairly quiet in recent days (i think) let's get this straight to begin with - this is a hypothetical blog - we don't have a baby and in fact we don't particularly want one right now and with the beautiful val's [...]
