2013: there and back again!

so for friends back home there have been hints and allegations [a loose affiliation of millionaires and billionaires and baby] and subtle innuendos as to what might be pertaining to the future for the andersons after this year... for those of you who have been following semi-closely, the beautiful Valerie [tbV] and i have been living, working and ministering with the Simple Way Christian non-profit organisation in Kensington, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Americaland since about June of [...]

Dangerous Elections you can Least Expect…

so with election day happening in Americaland this week it was almost inevitable that Brad Fish, host of the hilarious 'Dangerous Things You Can Least Expect' series on You Tube would lend some words of warning as to why voting for the elections [with an 'L'] can be a Dangerous Thing for reasons you might Least Expect... check it out and if it makes you smile, laugh, giggle or snort some kind of liquid through [...]

'myths of the election' vs 'election lies'

Meat Romney? so i wrote about the elections the other day and think some people may have been disappointed by me not actually talking all that sepcifically about the elections and voting in it, as the bottom line of my post was that 'we vote every day by our actions' which is completely true and probably a lot more specifically relevant than the actual vote i do or don't cast [well i don't [...]

to vote or not to vote a definitive guide [ish]

at the simple way tonite we had Chris Haw come and share on the question of whether or not to vote... it was a really interesting discussion and sharing time and i imagine there was enough sensible reason given to vote [and this seriously piss off the 'thou shalt not vote' people] as well as enough sensible reason given not to vote [ditto with the 'tis within your moral obligation to the world to vote' [...]

celebrating failure?

yesterday tbV and i attended the wedding of some friends we have made in americaland, namely Kristin and the Beatles [as i call Matt, cos to me he looks like 2 or more of the Beatles rolled into one] and had a really fun time. the wedding was outside and the highlight of the event [apart from all of the wedding-related stuff of course] was this young flowergirl who completely messed up her job and [...]

of dinosaurs, finger insects and state line jumps…

we [myself, my beautiful wife Val, our housemate Sueihn and my gym and office buddy Coe aka 'Bubbly'] just got back from a very long trip which involved two twenty-five-plus hour two day road trips on either side of a one day Nurturing Communities conference which lead directly into the Christian Community Development Association [CCDA] annual conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota... what a complete blast. we had a great time road-tripping up, but it was our [...]

what stories are you telling?

a number of the simple way staff and residents are currently at the Christian Community Development Association [CCDA] conference in Minnesota which started last nite and is set to be an incredible time and i'm sure i will share a little bit about that here. last nite, Richard Twiss, a native american leader [who also spoke some challenging things last year which i think in part led to this year's theme being 'Reconcile'] started off [...]

Self-OCCUPY'd [a belated processing of the Occupy Movement that i encountered face to face]

i don't know a crazy lot about politics, nor do i claim to. although i do try to keep on top of the daily/weekly goings on back home in South Africa as well as the major news events with daily visits to internet news sites like iafrica.com and bbc.com so that i have a general idea of what is going on in the world. so when the OCCUPY movement came along, i had some idea [...]

being aware of the deluge in your unique…

i said to my beautiful wife Valerie the other day something along the lines of 'what do people write statuses [stati?] about on Facebook if they are not entering into a relationship or having a baby? [or these days in americaland making some kind of staunchly pro this party or anti that one political statement] as it just seemed like the majority of statuses [stati?] i was reading were about one of those... two things [...]
