Seven years anniversary reflections.

i considered titling this post "Seven years a slave" for the clickbait effect, but didn't for two reasons: [1] That would be horribly offensive to slaves and slavery and the ongoing pseudo-slavery that still happens in many places around the world. [2] That would be horribly offensive to marriage and married people. And especially tbV [the beautiful Val]. People who make jokes or digs or insinuations about marriage being like slavery or a prison sentence [...]

A Frikkin Hashtag: #YourHonestTwitterBio

So i've been sick and away and so this one is a little bit late, but herein lies the flop for the Honest Twitterer Bio... It was an absolute pleasure having Mistress Indistarr with us as co-host and she did an amazing job: @indistarr The focus of this week was to come up with a more accurate and honest Bio for your [or someone else's] Twitterer page. For example i wrote one for [...]

Interrupting Whiteness: De-othering your neighbourhood Whatsapp group

i really loved this post i read from a friend of mine on Facebook today: My friend just got kicked out a crime watch Whatsapp group in Morningside, Sandton for posting "Just spotted a white male walking up my street! Be careful everyone!" Well, loved and hated, because it sadly just proved something i have heard on many occasions - that a lot of Neighbourhood Watch Whatsapp groups are hives for both subtle and quite [...]

Interrupting Whiteness: Intro

What does it mean to Interrupt Whiteness? Well, in a world where Whiteness has been raised as a more-than better-than higher-than standard of beauty/worth/intelligence/rightness and so much more, this is clearly something we need to figure out, if we in fact do believe that all races are created equal - not the same, but equal. Colourblindness is not a healthy option because on the one hand it refuses to acknowledge that many people have been [...]

Meet Akala: my new favourite guy

Before today i had never heard of Akala [sorry, bro!] But then on the Facebook i clicked on a video clip that my friend Terence had tagged me in and was powerfully moved. And just now on the Twitterer i watched this clip, which is brilliant and heart-breaking all in one: Everyday racism: what should we do? - Akala pic.twitter.com/kJK5VhIpqz — h as in han (@hansonIine) June 29, 2016 A little Wikapedia'ing and this is [...]

The friends who are going to end this war

So i'm sitting a this coffee shop called Post in Joburg watching these two okes go at it. In the left corner, EFF member Napoleon Webster, who is notorious for having heckled Jacob Zuma at a meeting, for having heckled Cyril Ramaphosa at a meeting, for having heckled... well, you get the picture. He describes himself at one point in the 24 hours we got to hang together as a "rabble rouser" and i'm pretty [...]

A Frikkin Hashtag: #OneThingIdLikeToUnseeIs

What is one thing you would like to unsee? That was the question that @she_nutt and the @AFrikkinHashtag crew asked last week and it was the basis for a really fun game. Otherwise known as Lady Ä, @she_nutt is someone who is always hovering on or around the F.L.O.P. list as she really is a gifted Hashtag player, so we were super amped when she agreed to climb on board the @AFrikkinHashtag train and co-host with me. If you [...]

Sunday Preach: Faith in Active Solidarity

Yesterday i preached three times at Christ Church Kenilworth on the topic of 'Faith in Active Solidarity' with the tagline: Friends who carry friends to Jesus. The passage i was given was Mark 2.1-12 and i imagine many of you will know the story of the four friends who carry their paralysed friend to Jesus and end up having to break through the ceiling of someone's house because the crowd is so big that they [...]

When did you get so old?

Hope when you take that jump, you don't fear the fall Hope when the water rises, you built a wall Hope when the crowd screams out, they're screaming your name Hope if everybody runs, you choose to stay Today, as i was driving home from a morning at the Big Box in Cape Town, i heard these lines on the radio. It continued: Hope that you fall in love, and it hurts so bad The [...]

A Frikkin Hashtag: #IWillTellMyGrandchildrenAboutTheTime

What stories will you be telling your grandchildren? [The Story So Far: Every Wednesday at 12 noon South African time [6am EDT] an inspired and growing number of crazy people from all around the world take part in what is called a Hashtag game. @AFrikkinHashtag [say it out loud] is South Africa’s #1 Hashtag game and is always a lot of fun. The F.L.O.P. [or Fish List Of Prizeworthyness] is the collection of some of [...]
